In 2005 I went on an overland journey through Pakistan, China, Tibet and Nepal. We started out in Pakistan.

After about a week we crossed the Khunjerab pass into China.

We visited Tashkurgan, Kasghar, Yarkant, Turpan, Dunhuang, Golmud. As you can see these are mostly Uygur towns in Xinjiang.

From Golmud we took a sleeper bus to Lhasa. The bus drive took us 26 hours...
